Māori Ikon
On the north side of the Hokianga in the Far North the biggest threat to biodiversity is the pest plant wild ginger. Inspired by their classmates who won two National Excellence Awards by converting a pest to a product Māori Ikon decided to convert Wild GInger into a fertiliser. They sent their fertiliser off to a local laboratory and discovered they not only produced a nutrient rich fertiliser but a fertiliser that had insecticide qualities.
